Day in the limelight as Mauro Berruto’s lads from a secure phsychiatric hospital are filmed for Italian television sports show
March 2009

Twice a month they leave their troubles behind and descend onto the real court to begin their training like a Premier League team. A few months ago - thanks to their passion for volleyball - these inpatients from the Castiglione delle Stivere secure psychiatric hospital in the province of Mantua were taken under the wing of Mauro Berruto, coach for Acqua Paradiso Gabeca Montichiari, to embark on an important journey.
A journey that Italian television’s “Dribbling” show will feature in tomorrow’s edition, scheduled to be broadcast at 1.30 pm on Rai Due. Journalist Cristiano Piccinelli spent an entire day following each stage of their training - from the moment they arrive at the home ground, the PalaGeorge - documenting the expressions on their faces, the excitement, and how it must feel for them to be “free” for a few hours, despite their custodial sentence. THE POLL FOR THE MASCOT FLIES HIGH: MORE THAN 40.000 VOTES IN A WEEKEND ON THE INTERNET WEBSITES!
ROME, 13 October 2008

It still doesn’t have a name, but in a few days the 2010 Men’s World Championship Mascot has already become a familiar face. In a sole weekend, more than 40.000 Italians have expressed their preferences by literally storming the sport newspapers websites (www.gazzetta.it and www.corrieredellosport.it) and the Organizing Committee website (ww.volley2010.com) in order to participate to the poll and to give their personal contribution to the choice of the name of this swallow that has instantly conquered Italian people, arousing immediately interest and great popularity.
The first calculation of the preferences, from those expressed by the participants to those of the party organized last Friday in Rome for the Mascot birth, records at present the head-to-head between two options: Mimmo and Italo, that gathered main consensus, both with a 30% share of preferences. Back to them, the other couple of names: Volly and Fly, that obtained consensus near to 20%. Left behind, till now, the option Gamp. But the poll is only in its initial stage and, given the high media participation, the ranking triggered after this voting weekend could be completely turned upside down. Even because the kids of the Roman schools and of the other nine cities of the World Championship (Ancona, Catania, Florence, Milan, Modena, Reggio Calabria, Turin, Trieste and Verona) haven’t come to the stage yet.
